Donation Nights
Yarn Angels South Bay conducts three donation nights each year, typically in the spring, late summer, and early December; these afford the opportunity to meet several representatives of the organizations we serve and provide them with the results of our members' handiwork and dedication. See Calendar on the drop-down meetings tab here for more information and for 2023 locations here of the April 10, August 9, and December 11 donation nights as they are determined.

Thousand heartfelt thanks to our generous, creative, thoughtful volunteers in 2021 who donated 3167 handmade items! The top 10 (as far as quantity) were: Baby/Infant Blankets, Adult/Teen Hats, Adult/Teen Blankets, Purses/Totes, Scarves, Lapghans, Infant Caps, Head Bands, Baby Bootie & Cap Sets, and Wash Cloths. There are many more types of lovingly created handmade items.
On a donation night, the representatives will give a short presentation (when not during a pandemic) about the services they provide; they are also available to answer questions. During the pandemic, we have been meeting a church parking lots outside to drop off the donations in each charities car trunk. In not-pandemic times, a table is set up for each charity and you are free to place what you've made or purchased to whichever charity you'd like; a placard attached to the table notes the name of the organization and their 'wish list' to assist you ('tags' and 'washing instruction' info is available at meetings) Please ensure each of your handmade items have been laundered and tagged with a Yarn Angels Tag (see below or press tag link). Prepare a list of all the handmade items you are donating (sample sheet is available at meetings and available below in a PDF format or by pressing the following link: "Tally Sheet") and return to Pat H. An additional table is set up to accept your handmade items that you agree can be sold at YASB booths at local craft fairs, with all proceeds going back to our charities to purchase gift cards.
School supplies are a focus at the August donation night. In mid-July each year, office supply stores (Office Depot, Staples, Walgreen's, Target, etc.) begin selling school supplies for PENNIES (check for flyers in your Sunday paper). In particular, Rainbow Services is in desperate need of school supplies for their clients.
At the December Donation night, NEW toys (infant thru teen), batteries, art supplies, etc., are a welcome addition to the handcrafted items donated. These will go to children and teenagers who may not otherwise receive holiday gifts.
Rainbow Services accepts donations of NEW clothing for women and children - all sizes
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Child Life Services accepts age-appropriate donations of games, books, puzzles, DVD's, CD music, coloring book and supplies for pediatric patients from birth to 21 years old. This charity graciously sent us a thank you letter [link] in appreciation on May 18, 2021. See detailed 2019-2020 Wish List and 2020-2021 Wish List
